Program Volunteer Coordinator - Lansing

Ele’s Place Lansing is seeking a Program Volunteer Coordinator to work with its grief support programs and volunteers. This position is 40 hrs/wk.

Position Profile:

Provides guidance, information and referrals to families and others around experiences of death, grief and loss; oversees assigned facilitators for evening support group program sessions. Coordinates the recruitment, training, assignment and supervision of programming volunteers.  

Principle Responsibilities:

1. Oversees assigned support group sessions on one program night, serving as the facilitator/volunteer coordinator on the assigned nights. Makes periodic visits to other nights of programming as possible.

  • As facilitator/volunteer coordinator, provides guidance/support/feedback to facilitators and volunteers; shares information about procedures, etc. with facilitators; and ensures all set-up/clean-up work is completed.
  • Provide ongoing supervision to Volunteer Coordinator
  • Manage volunteer budget.

2. Conducts family intakes/orientations; provides follow-up and referral as needed.  Assist        callers and visitors with inquiries seeking information, guidance and/or referral.

3. Recruits and interfaces with prospective and new facilitators.  Coordinates the pre- and           post-training interview process and conducts interviews.

4. Ensure all aspects of facilitator training programs for prospective and current facilitators are planned and coordinated effectively, and leads portions of the training.  Identifies additional training needs for facilitators and group leaders; oversees the development and implementation of trainings, such as, Annual In-service training, in-service workshops and mini-training information. Updates the Volunteer (Facilitator) Training Manual as needed and adds their personal information to the database.

5. Coordinates assignment of facilitators, including parent group leaders, and program     helpers.  Recruits and maintains current list of substitute facilitators.

6. Works with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding the recruitment and coordination of training for programming volunteers to ensure these duties are fulfilled with accuracy and timeliness.     

7. Participates in Program Team meetings, and works with this group to ensure applicable strategic plan goals are achieved when required.

8. Assists with the maintenance of the activities database and group leader policies and procedures manual.

9.Participate in presentations to community groups, teachers, physicians, etc. about Ele’s Place and children’s grief issues.

10. Adopts staff team philosophy and work habits.

11. Other duties as assigned. 

A minimum of LLMSW, LLPC or LLMFC certification is required.  Ideal candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and good computer skills. Adult and child group experience, knowledge of grief issues and community resources required. Previous experience working with volunteers is very helpful.
